About Me…

Back shot.jpg

I have always loved fitness since I was young. In high school I was active playing sports, hiking, and jogging. Growing up in beautiful Moab, Utah allowed me to spend a great deal of time outdoors staying active. I learned quickly during this time how exercise helped with anxiety, mood elevation, and managing stress levels.

During my 20’s it was a darker time for me when it came to my well-being. I suffered from poor self-esteem, terrible eating habits and I was trapped in a cycle of restricting and binge eating. I also was carrying around an extra 25 pounds that made me even more uncomfortable in my skin. Stuck in the dieting cycle while using exercise as punishment really begins to deplete you emotionally and physically. I knew something had to change, but I was lost.

In my 30’s I began training for a half marathons and sprint triathlons. My cardio was topnotch but something was missing in my fitness regimen. I had lost some of the weight but still felt this underlying pressure to log hours of cardio each week to keep the weight off. Not the best mindset when it comes to healthy living. Around 36 is when I decided to change things up and try weight training. Weight lifting completely changed my life! First, I started off by simply using the gym weight training machines and felt somewhat intimidated by the whole process. This didn’t stop me though. I read books, weight training blogs, and followed inspirational weight training experts. Soon, I gradually incorporated free weights and compound lifts.

Instantly I noticed my strength increasing along with my confidence in and outside of the gym. I went on to earning my NASM certified personal training certificate to further my knowledge base. Now I continue to lift heavy, set personal strength goals and educate myself on weight training. At forty three years old I am in the best shape of my life thanks to weight training.

If there was one word of advice I would share with women of all ages is to give weight training a try. See how your body responds, see how you feel mentally and physically after completing an eight week program. I promise you will be hooked!

Flexible Dieting

Falling in love with training was easy however dieting was still an issue. Growing up I had huge insecurities with my body and developed a poor relationship food. I labeled food as bad or good.

The clean eating craze only lead to more deprivation and frustration when it came to food. I found myself restricting and then bingeing. It was a terribly frustrating cycle to be caught up in. What changed it all for me? Flexible dieting and macros!

Flexible dieting is what I coach my clients on for nutrition, weight loss, and fostering a healthy relationship with food. It’s a simple plan that allows food that fits with your specific macro-nutrients. This method provides the freedom to still enjoy the foods you love. If you like ice cream, you can EAT ice cream. Flexible dieting showed me that with proper nutrition, planning and eating a balanced diet you can have the body you desire. Food was no longer my enemy with macro eating. It was a way to fuel my workouts, keep my body fit, and enjoy delicious dishes.
